Beautiful and smart

“Beautiful and smart” is a spectacle by the Theatre Of One Poem, which subject matter is the society. However, it is filtered with a specific, poetical, but still somewhat ironical outlook.

In the darkness we see poorly lighted up parts of the face, some faces appear, others disappear – in beams of light, through fog we see more clearly some human shapes, which are closed in a semi-transparent cocoons – they’re doing something, they’re going somewhere, but all the time they cannot fight the barrier of walls. As the music changes, people in the cocoons are trying to get out of it. Gradually, they become more and more desperate, when suddenly they tear the cocoons achieving freedom. Finally, we hear their voices, they can speak, the can act – they are free. However, the words that are spoken are nothing more than cliché, the essence is the sentence: “How lucky I am, that I can live in this country, where none tries to shoot me” – reality like this must be wonderful. This is what we wanted; this is what we fought for. We shouldn’t be unhappy about it, we should be happy so we are happy – we’ve got new things, cars, husbands, notions. We try very hard not to wonder, not to see, not to think. Especially striking is the moment when naked man lifts a girl – he clasps her. His face is a face of a human being – but after a while music changes, the girl stands up, they’re hugging each other, giggling, they’re leaving. The man is not a human being any more, he’s just a naked guy.

The speed of the spectacle is rising – people with trolleys fill the world (or the world shrinks due to the supermarkets growth), there, where the life goes on, the teas are being drunk, children are raised – the absurd grows.

Cut – darkness.

In gentle beams of light, faces appear – human being’s faces – they look around – they may be amazed – they observe.
They see.
